4 Blush Placement Techniques That Can Completely Transform Your Look

Oh, blush! This simple product can instantly make you look more youthful, glowing, and rested but did you know that with the right blush placement, you can also change your face shape? We’re all aware now of the powers of contouring, helping us to get snatched cheekbones and jawlines, but the power of blusher is often overlooked.

This wonderful little product is a makeup artist's best friend. Just apply a small amount to your face and voila, you can create a healthy, youthful fuller look, a more defined, contoured look, or even a sunkissed look! Here are some useful tips on how to apply blush to create the look you’re after.

Face-lifting blush hacks

If you've been wearing blush for a long time, then you’re probably used to putting blush on the apples of your cheeks. However, if you’re after a ‘lifted’ look, you should actually apply your blush higher up on the cheekbones where you would typically apply your highlighter. For a full face-lifted look, apply your bronzer/contour slightly above the hollows of your cheeks, the blush on top of your bronzer, and then apply a small amount of concealer from the outside corner of your eye towards your temples. These face-lifting blush hacks will create the appearance of higher cheekbones.

Blush Application for a ‘Fuller’ Look

If you’re after a youthful, fuller look, apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks. Make sure that you blend the blusher in without pulling it up towards your temple, otherwise, this will make your face look more contoured/ slimmer rather than fuller. We recommend using a rosy, pink blush as this will help to add plumpness to your face.

Blush Application for a ‘Sun-kissed’ Look

POV: it’s summer, you’ve spent the day at the beach, you’ve got a beautiful natural suntan and your cheeks are rosy from the sun. We’re obsessed with this beautiful, natural, glowing look! If you want to recreate this look, we’ve got the perfect hack! Apply your blush in a sweeping motion across your cheekbones and your nose in a ‘W’ shape. This area is where the sun naturally hits your face, so applying a rosy blush in this area creates a stunning sunkissed makeup look.

Blush Application for a Slimmer look

Did you know that you can also use blush to contour your face to create a slimmer face? Simply apply your blush under your cheekbone and at the side of your forehead towards your temples and blend this out. We would recommend using a deeper blush, rather than a pink, rosy blush as this will add more definition.

Blush Application Tips

  • When applying blush, we recommend standing in natural light for example near a window to ensure it has been blended in seamlessly with no harsh lines.
  • Choose a blush shade that suits your skin tone and undertones to give yourself the perfect, natural flush.
